Random Thought

You know what I find depressing, is that Huffington Post added a new section called “Divorce.”

That is sad. I mean really.

Motivation Problems

Aside from this being the semester that will never end, I have serious motivation problems.

And at times like this, I wonder if my lack of motivation and desire to read blogs, cook, eat and sleep means I should quit the PhD, or if it’s just a rough patch.

When I worry about it taking too long what with getting married and babies, FH is the best, saying who cares if it takes 10 years. If you want to do it, don’t worry about the time it will take. Which is super great.

But right now, when all I want to do is Christmas stuff, I have to read and do a lit review… argh.

We got them!

As is tradition in our home country, and substantiated by wikipedia:

In other countries from South America, like in Argentina, men and women each use one ring, and these are generally very similar to the wedding rings, with the difference that they are made of silver instead of gold. In Nordic countries such as Finland and Norway, both men and women wear an engagement ring.

We got our engagement rings which we had specially designed and engraved inside! Woohoo!

Yah, I haven’t posted much, mostly because this has been a horrible semester in so many ways academically, and I didn’t want to turn this into a well to ignore my life let me think about wedding stuff all the time blog. Clearly the way to go was ignore blog comepletly, no?

Yah, so I haven’t seen them yet, FH got them and is bringing them over on Christmas when he visits, woot!

And another thing

ok maybe two.

1) why don’t places list their prices online. What’s this call for a consultation crap. I don’t have time to call and visit 10 different places for each different thing when a) I don’t already live there and b) I have a life, thank you.

2) I am taking too many classes. I have stopped doing pilates. I need to do something active. And I need to get more motivated and do work.

Still around

So hi there to anyone still reading. Here’s a quick update on the life of Justme.

Fieldwork this summer was awesome! Finalized dissertation topic, yay!

LDBF visited me in fieldwork country and we went to homecountry and it was amazing.

We got engaged.

I am super happy.

Now about this whole wedding business, and it is a business. What the heck? Why is it so hard? We care more about the liturgy and the food than anything else, but everything is so freakin’ expensive! Because here’s the deal. We are not doing an American wedding, we are doing a HomeCountry wedding. Which is more reasonable in home country, but expensive here. The place you eat at, a restaurant, takes care of everything. Decor, menu printing, music, all that crap.

So I went onto the knot website to look for potential places, as we’re not doing the wedding here in Grad School City. And you have to register. Ok fine, fake name and done. But geez louise. There are forums about everything.

I do not care about table runners. Personalized napkins. Flip flop baskets. flip flop baskets, people! Who cares?! Framed table numbers. Card holders. Something blue. Chargers. Chair covers. Chair sashes. I mean come. on.

So clearly I am not a typical knot bride. And I don’t want to pay one year’s worth of college tuition (back when I went) for a wedding. Yet I am not crafty. I am in no way a DIY-er. I read regretsy for pete’s sake. How in the heck is one supposed to do all this crap? I just want to find normally priced HomeCountry things, fabulous and lots of food — none of this choose your entrée when you RSVP — and get married in the Church.

I am grateful for LDBH, who I’ll now refer to as FH, b/c I *hate* the word fiancée, as he is totally involved and we are doing things all Catholic and HomeCountry like. And we both care about liturgy and food the most. And I thank God for him and for bringing us together.

But this wedding business of you have to invite this person if you invite that person and what are your colors — I have no colors! — I could do without.

It’s called communication

Super frustrated at the moment with a professor who apparently has forgotten HOW to communicate and doesn’t realize that ze needs to do so because other people’s lives have to go on. Ze is not the only one who needs to make plans, we all do.

So please reply to me and make a decision already! Because you are seriously stressing me out here.

Tomorrow I’ll be gone

So I’m headed out for fieldwork for the next two months…. ldbf is gone. but we will meet up again in fieldwork country, just two more weeks!

All this basically to say, hope you all have a wonderful summer, and yah, this will be reason for my even sparser reading than usual, and even sparser commenting.

And now, off to the land of little internet!

What is it with Lost?!?

I should not watch Lost late at night. Apparently the producers have decided to make me cry my eyes out, practically sobbing, not just tears down my face, for every episode. Can you all believe the sadness?!?
